  • Natural Light. Natural Beauty.

I used to be SO afraid of using oil on my skin, because I thought it would make me greasy and cause breakouts. But the last few years I’ve found a true love for beauty oils and I now use them every single day! I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite oils from a company called Ko & Humble. Everything they offer is extremely high quality – using only organic ingredients and crafting cold-pressed oils in small batches. These oils are amazing!IMG_1313-

Virgin Argan Oil is my favorite for my hair and nails. It’s high in essential fatty acids, and extremely moisturizing. After I shower, I smooth a little into the ends of my hair to help prevent and protect split ends. I also love this for my cuticles. A little goes a long way!

Golden Jojoba Oil has been essential to my skincare routine. Jojoba oil is mild, and helps calm and soothe inflammation. This has been great for my acne. I mix a few drops into my moisturizer, or use it as part of my oil-cleansing routine. So much love for jojoba oil!

Passion Fruit Seed Oil (also known as Maracuja Oil) is super lightweight, which I love! It’s also full of anti-oxidants that brighten and even skin tone. If you’ve never tried an oil on your face, this is a great one to start with. It’s ultra-light, absorbs super fast, and leaves you radiant.

Actually, all three of these oils absorb quickly and never leave me feeling greasy. I’ve been super impressed with them – even the packaging is beautiful. I’d definitely recommend checking out the Ko & Humble, and looking into which oil is right for your skin. They have a ton of great resources on their blog too.

What are your favorite beauty oils?

It’s starting to feel like summer here in Portland! I thought it would be a good chance to chat about natural sun protection on my blog today. Cyberderm1There are a lot of ways to naturally protect your skin from sun damage, skin cancer, and premature aging:

  • Plan your outfit. You can wear layers, floppy hats, sunglasses, maxi dresses, shawls, etc. Sun protection can be fashionable!
  • Plan your day. Avoid that mid-day sun when you can, find shade when you need it, and bring an umbrella!
  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Green tea is another great option since it’s rich in polyphenols, giving your skin a boost of antioxidants to protect against free radicals.
  • Consider your diet. Fun fact: foods with high levels of lycopene can actually protect your skin from sunburn and skin cancer. So cool! Many of these foods are perfect for summer weather: watermelon, pink guava, papaya, grapefruit, red bell peppers and tomatoes.

Obviously watermelon and green tea can’t replace sunscreen. If you remember from my post last summer, I’m actually allergic to traditional sunscreen. Even if I wasn’t, I would try to avoid it.  Traditional sunscreens are often full of chemical fillers, hormone disruptors, and skin irritants – no thanks!

Thankfully there are plenty of natural sunscreens on the market. Cyberderm is one that I definitely recommend! This Simply Zinc Sun Whip is perfect for the face – very light weight and goes on clear (no white cast). It’s also highly recommended on the EWG’s Safe Sunscreen Guide. You can check out Cyberderm’s website here for more details.

If you want a little tint to your sunscreen, check out Juice Beauty’s Organic Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream. This gives a nice dewy glow and helps even out skin tone. It works well for me under makeup too! Mine is in the color “natural glow.”

Processed with VSCO with s2 presetFor all-over sunscreen, I’ve been using Badger Balm. It’s a little hard to spread around, but it has a nice light lavender scent and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy.

Do you have any favorite natural sunscreens?

Enjoy the sunshine, beauties! xoxo

  • Aubrey - Thank you for the helpful information! I love you 100% Pure Argan Oil Moisturizer SPF 30 and Graydon Clinical Luxury’s Elements. They are both fantastic!ReplyCancel

  • Anna Rizzo Vessey - I love Suntegrity 5 in 1 moisturizing, tinted sunscreen primer for face. I haven’t tried the Juice Beauty cc yet. I love the Badger Balm and use it for all over body. I agree that it is hard to rub in unless it is really warm but it is hard to find a natural sunscreen that is also fairly organic and non-nano, and smells so lovely. :)ReplyCancel

It was so much fun shooting and exploring with Riley! My favorite part was finding the prettiest walkway with tons of colorful flower petals. So glad we got to capture a little bit of spring before summer hits. I’ve been dealing with some breakouts for the past few months, so my skincare routine has needed a little boost. I love facial masks not only because they help detoxify the skin, but also because they are a great way to relax and unwind! Of course, I always look for masks that are free from chemical stabilizers, perfumes, parabens and other irritants. Here are a few of my favorites:

Arcona Tea Tree Mask. This mild minty mask was recommended to me by Shannon at Echo Natural Beauty in Portland. It’s extremely refreshing and really wakes my skin up. Sulphur, grapefruit extract, and tea tree oil are all amazing ingredients for acne-prone skin, so this is my go-to when I’m having a breakout. It’s hard to know when to take off the mask, because it doesn’t totally dry. But because it’s such a mild mask, you can leave it on for a longer period without any issues. After removing the mask, my skin feels refreshed and a little bit tingly from the mint balm. Love it! You can find it here.IMG_0949Aztec Secret Clay Mask. This is a 1-ingredient, super affordable, super intense mask. It comes in powder form, which I mix with water or diluted apple cider vinegar. There’s something about a classic green mud mask that makes me feel totally pampered! When it turns from green to light green and starts cracking, it’s time to rinse it off. The first time I used it my skin was a little red afterwards, but that faded quickly. It definitely makes me feel like I’ve detoxed my pores, and leaves me with crazy soft skin. I wouldn’t recommend this for everyday use, but it’s perfect for when your skin needs a reset. Pick up a jar for just $10 here.IMG_9535Secret In-a-Tube Facial Mask. Dr. Rob Berberian sent me this natural mask and I am totally in love! Although it’s marketed more for anti-aging, it’s also great for acne-prone skin. The funny thing about this mask is that it dries super fast and really tightens up. You can barely move your face after the first minute of having it on, and if you try to smile or talk it wrinkles up and makes you look about 100 years old. Definitely entertaining. But after rinsing off the mask my skin is always smooth and glowy! Check it out here.
